For this installment of Vaping Weekly, we’re covering one important topic: World Vape Day.
Vaping advocacy and education continue to be crucial parts of our mission to accelerate tobacco harm reduction. If we want to create a smoke-free future, we need the right tools and the right information.
The vaping community is fortunate to have so many global healthcare leaders as allies. However, we also need to educate ourselves and the smokers in our lives if we wish to make the biggest strides in reducing smoking prevalence.
The next few days are big for vaping. World Vape Day, which takes place May 30, 2021, is a community run campaign, supported by more than 40 advocacy organisations from across the world. It aims to reach smokers, policymakers, and the scientific community through a wide range of events, evidence reviews and organic social media testimony.
Multiple events are being held to celebrate and promote World Vape Day, in different languages and time zones. Here are some of the highlights:
🕓 4:00 pm CET: Start of the stream with a Vape Trick Show
Vapers from around the world will showcase their best tricks and show how vaping can be turned into an art form.
🕓 4.15 pm CET: Opening Remarks
by Michael Landl, Director of the WVA & Liza Katsiashvili, Community Manager of the WVA.
🕔 5:00 pm CET: Time For Optimism: How Vaping Is Changing the World
Liza Katsiashvili will talk to several leaders of WVA partner organisations about the situation in their countries and their success stories.
🕕 6:00 pm CET: Why Is It Worth Going the Extra Mile for vaping
Michael Landl in discussion with experts in tobacco harm reduction.
🕖 7:00 pm CET: The Great Alexandro “Hazard” Lucian Show
A year in review – the good, the bad and the ugly. Alexandro Lucian, famous vaping influencer in Brazil, will host a panel discussion together with Michael Landl and tobacco harm experts.
“The Coalition of Asia Pacific Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates (CAPHRA) is an alliance between the Tobacco Harm Reduction Advocates and their respective organisations in the region. Our mission and aim is to educate, advocate and represent the right of adult alternative nicotine consumers to access and use of products that reduce harm from tobacco use.”
If you live in the Asia Pacific region, you can participate in their #smokefree4life survey here.
Vape Fest, hosted by the “Vapear No es Fumar” movement, will be held on YouTube (in Spanish).
Vapers Philippines is asking supporters to share their transition stories from cigarettes to vaping in a 60-second video. You can find more information on their Facebook group here.
Advocates work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure our continued right to vape. This technology has already changed countless lives. If we work together, we can let smokers know there is a less harmful alternative waiting for them, and we can support them in making the switch.
So, what are you waiting for? Add those events to your calendar, get your social media ready, and clear your schedule for a full weekend of campaigning for a smoke-free future!
